Change your place of residence
Mandatory appointment at the Citizens’ Registration Office: The change of residence (re-registration) must take place within one month.
Entitlement to housing benefit?
Check your entitlement to housing benefit – in many federal states conveniently online using the housing benefit calculator.
Broadcasting fee
Mandatory for every tenant. Changes of address must be notified to the GEZ by online form or registered letter.
Check insurance requirements
New apartment – same insurance? Doesn’t always fit. To be on the safe side, check your insurance cover.
Inform insurance companies
To avoid any (nasty) surprises: Inform your insurance partners about your move in good time.

How much is the deposit?
As a rule, the amount of the deposit is three net cold rents. More is not permitted by law. Depending on the location and the specifications of the apartment owner, this can also be two net cold rents. Are you having difficulty raising the deposit or would you simply like to have free access to your money? No problem with CAPERA.
What is a tenant certificate/self-disclosure needed for?
You may need a tenant certificate for authorities, for example for the social welfare office or the job center. A self-disclosure serves the landlord to check the creditworthiness of the prospective tenant. This is used to check whether a prospective tenant may have debts and (actually) cannot afford the rent.
What is a previous landlord's certificate and what is it needed for?
You will (in many cases) need a previous landlord’s certificate when you apply for a new apartment. This previous landlord’s certificate is a kind of “certificate” that you receive from your former landlord. It states whether the tenancy was problem-free, whether there were or are rental debts and whether you may have violated the house rules.
How long is the notice period for a rental apartment?
As a rule, the deadline is three months. However, there may be special agreements in each tenancy agreement, such as the exclusion of termination. This exclusion of termination is possible for a maximum of four years.
Can I leave the rental agreement early if I can find a new tenant?
Yes, this is possible in principle. However, the new tenant must meet the landlord’s requirements.
When will I receive the utility bill?
The landlord has 12 months after the end of the billing period to prepare the service charge statement and send it to the tenant. The tenant again has 12 months from receipt of the service charge statement to lodge an objection.
Are shared apartments possible?
Yes, this is possible in principle. If you are interested in a shared apartment, please contact us directly.
Can I sublet my apartment?
Yes. However, you need the written consent of the landlord for this. If you are planning to sublet, please get in touch with us.
Am I allowed to keep pets in my rented apartment?
As a general rule, you do not need the landlord’s consent for a reasonable number of small animals (e.g. fish or hamsters). If you have dogs or cats or possibly even exotic animals, you need the official permission of the landlord. For official application we have a
